Here's a skort I made using the skirt pattern Simplicity pattern 5084,
which is for a woven. I sized it down 1 or 2 sizes since I was using a knit.
Then, I found a pattern from Ottobre 4/2004 that is for long underwear
or shorts and made them to go underneath. I used a size 8 width and
a size 12 length. I did not hem the skirt, just did a picot edge on my
serger. She wanted the shorts hemmed so I did but my machine almost
ate them before I was done. I needed a new needle as the fabric is very
thin and stretchy. You can see that the hem stretched out a bit but I
think this will go down in the wash. If not, no one will see them anyway.
Skirt fabric is an embroidered knit (jersey?) from Joann's.
BTW, dd had just come out of the pool so there are water spots on the
fabric from her long, wet hair.
One school skort down, many more things to go! I made sure to leave a little
growing room in case she grows in the next 6 weeks. LOL.

Those turned out so cute! I have found, by the way, that using this stuff that is a self sticking water soluble stabilizer works great for sewing thin stretch material. No skipped stitches or anything. I think its called Adhesive Backed Water Soluble Film. You cut it into strips and then just stick it down in the seam allowance and then fold it over to enclose it. Then you sitch away and it won't gum up the needle. Then when you are done you just run cold water over it in the sink and it disolves away and you have a perfect hem. The difference when I use it is night and day in how much easier it is to sew the thin stretchy stuff.
