Visit to Hancock's Fabrics

I had a little time to kill between appointments today so I stopped off at Hancock Fabrics to see if they had the "perfect" fabric for some spring Ottobre creations. I couldn't find anything in the type of fabric that I was looking for but that didn't stop me. I found a couple striped knits on the flat fold remnant table for $2.99 a yard. I also found a corduroy in the 50% off table. In the store I thought it was a dark olive green. At home it is a dark brown. I also picked up a couple of cute ribbons. Don't know what I'm going to do with them. Maybe a belt out of wider one. Since the corduroy is brown I could use the blue stripe for a shirt and use the ribbon trim on the corduroy for contrast details and make N an outfit. I got some yellow ribbing to match the multi-color stripe. Would be a cute contrast neckline. Now I just have to find the perfect Ottobre patterns for these.

M's New Creations and Meaghan's Slippers

M knitted a new scarf for K for Christmas. It turned out really nice. M got a nifty nitter for Christmas and made a matching hat too but we didn't get pix of that. Here's K proudly modelling her new scarf. It was 2F this AM and she said that her scarf keeps her so nice and warm.

After Christmas M asked me to make pj pants for her AG doll that match the ones I made M. Smart mom that I am, I told her she could make them herself. She did a great job on them. Here's Kaya modelling them. It's hard to see but M also made a pattern to make a matching headband. It turned out great.

Kaya's also modelling the slippers that I made for Meaghan's AG doll to match the hospital gown that I made. The slippers are from a Simplicity pattern. They only have one sewn seam. The rest is really a craft pattern gluing fabric, foam core board, and bias tape together. Evidentally Meaghan just loves them so they were worth all the sticky fingers.

Fast flying cape

N is always playing "Super Why" running around the house wearing a cape made from an old receiving blanket his grandma made for M 13 years ago. So, I decided to make him a new cape for Christmas. This one has velcro at the neckline instead of being tied. I also made one for the BAB puppy he got for Christmas. I found flame fabric left over from Halloween at Jo-ann's and red lining fabric. I used two yards sewn side by side and stitched all around three sides. Then I gathered the neckline as closely as I could and stitched black bias tape to the neckline adding velcro for the closure. Puppy's isn't quite as gathered but he can stand without walking on his cape. N and puppy fly so fast when they wear their capes. Unfortunately, N still seems to wear the old cape more than the new one. Maybe he likes that it just slips it over his head. I don't know. I'm not sure he knows why.

Christmas PJ bottoms and after Christmas PJ tops

I made pj pants for the kids for Christmas and after Christmas I made tops to match them. Here is the culmination of that work.

The first two are N's pjs (and a modelled pic too). They are both from Ottobre. The top is a PJ top from 4/2005 #20 size 116. It's a bit big but that's ok because the pants are long too. Maybe they'll go two winters. The pants are actually the sailor pants that I've made before for pj pants but this time I laid front and back side by side and cut them as one. Also added length so they were pants, not long shorts. They are from 3/06 #25. Didn't write the size down again. Flannel is from Jo-Anns. Knits are from S.R.Harris.





The pants on this one are a camo jeep fabric. It is just adorable. If click to do a close-up the t-shirt has little kangaroos, koalas, dingos, crocodiles and jeeps on it. I love this fabric.

The next PJs are for K. The top is Ottobre 2/2003 #40 in size 140. I went up one size from her normal t-shirt size to give her extra room for sleeping. It is quite wide and not overly long. The pants are from Simplicity 7407 size 8 plus lots of length. They fit great except I sized the rise to a pair of pjs that she already owns and can probably take off about 3". The flannel is from Jo-Ann's and the top is a crinkly knit from S.R.Harris. It isn't the best fabric but she wanted crinkly to match the pjs I made for her BAB puppy for Christmas. Can't believe I didn't get a picture of the puppy modelling her pjs.

The next one is for M. The top is the same as the green t-shirt I made before from Ottobre Women 2/2006 #1. I narrowed the width on the squared neckline this time and it works much better. Here's the closeup. I'm not sure I want to do a contrasting color on that square neckline again. It's hard to sew it evenly around those corners. I stretched the FOE more this time and it worked much better. No gaping. FOE is from a coop and top is a knit from S.R.Harris.

Here's the full size view. Pants are from Simplicity 5358. I cut them out and then realized I didn't consider the length. So, I added some piping (from K's pjs) and another strip of fabric (folded in half so I didn't have to hem them) on the bottom. It turned out so cute I'd say it's a design feature. Doubly good that I didn't have to hem.

AG Doll Hospital Gown for Meaghan

Here's the AG doll hospital gown I made for Meaghan's doll. Do you like it better with or without the clown applique?



Here's the back of the gown. It closes with velcro but I added a little red ribbon too to make it look like the top ties closed like a regular hospital gown. No bottom baring flare though. LOL. I chose red bias tape for the neckline as Meaghan's favorite color is red.



Here's the gown modelled by one of K's dolls who is quite pleased with the fit. ;)
